TRAINING

Cedar Grove Retriever Kennels uses sound training methods that have been proven over the years by the top professional retriever trainers in the nation. Our philosophy is to teach, motivate and develop confidence in the working retriever.

Our training program is four to six months, depending on your dog's abilities.  Your dog will be obedience trained, force fetched, collar conditioned,  delivering to hand and releasing the bird to you while sitting at heel, marking and retrieving double marks, and sitting on the whistle taking directional commands to a blind retrieve.

The above mentioned training will produce a dog that will be obedient in a waterfowl hunting situation and in a dove hunting situation with your buddies.  You will be very pleased to have your trained dog along on these hunts.

If you are interested in having your dog trained for upland hunting please let us know and we will adapt our training to fit your needs.

We have a major amount of land and water to work your dogs on, including 1500 acres at Poole Knobs Wildlife Management Area in La Vergne, TN, which is only ten minutes from our kennel. Poole Knobs has a technical pond, as well as other ponds and flooded timber.  We also have access to 100 acres in Spencer, TN, with an extremely modern technical pond and a stick pond (pond with stumps and stick-ups), located at a bird dog training facility.  We have access to many acres of rolling hay fields that provide terrain that dogs need to learn on to be successful hunt test dogs, as well as gun dogs.

As mentioned before, please make an appointment with us to watch our retrievers perform and you will see the beautiful grounds we have available for working our dogs.  When clients come out to see where we train, they are always impressed with the grounds we have to train their loyal friends. After your retriever is trained to the point where you can easily handle him or her, you can join us for training on these grounds on an appointment basis.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!

John with his students' undivided attention.
